The “backpack” journey through Binh Thuan

If you like a “backpack” journey following Vietnamese style like ours, hire some motorbike and bring them along. It would be amazing!

After almost 4 hours sitting on the train, leaving Saigon, leaving the intense sunshine and all the spontaneous rains, me and some of my friends stepped on the train station of Phan Thiet – The seaside city in Binh Thuan.

Phan Thiet has some fresh water lakes called “Bau Trang” or “Mui Ke Ga” which are located among the sand mounds. Along with a big significant lighthouse, the cool sea breezes and the comfortable sunshine, these lakes create a sense of peace in hearts of those who have visited the city…

On the first day, we bought tickets and caught a 6A.M train to Phan Thiet (bringing along motorbikes). Local people here were very friendly, especially the owner of the hotel in which we stayed. Phan Thiet has many different delicious dishes which made from fresh sea fish. You can visit some popular tourist destinations of the city, i.e. Truong Duc Thanh (Duc Thanh School, an ancient school), Van Thuy Tu…

The second day, we traveled to Bau Trang – a beautiful and famous destination, particularly an ideal place to those who love taking pictures.

The final day, we visited the significant lighthouse – Mui Ke Ga to watch the sunrise; the cool fresh breeze of the sea gently blew from behind. We were very excited yet nervous to be on a coracle, plus the boatman constantly teased us by saying “This coracle can be turned upside down if met a giant breeze!” This even made us more frightened although we all had worn life-jackets.
